My name is Sue Brown and I live on a pine knoll (in a sunny spot) on a river (not near enough to flood the house) in Maine. I am married to a sweet, wonderful man, and have a equally wonderful stepdaughter, a beloved son, a best-friend kind of daughter-in-law, and three joyous grandchildren whom I adore. Our house is inhabited by 3 Airedales, a Sheltie, 3 cats, and 2 dozen or more tropical fish (I can’t keep count—they keep having babies). And outside: 9 lovely hens.
I feel like I’ve had several lifetimes poured into this one. I have taught art, enjoy being an artist, and love to write. Currently I’m a counselor at a middle and high school, and have my own business in Web design (http://www.blackbirdwebdesign.com)
When did I begin to love writing? Probably as soon as I could read. My parents let me use a heavy little typewriter most likely manufactured in Central or South America; it had Spanish symbols on some of the keys and they were not in QWERTY order. (It seemed old—predating WWII?) I remember sitting in my room writing story after story. I was copying Mom, who had a BIG typewriter and wrote many stories herself. I copied Dad as well, who drew and painted. I suppose it’s no surprise that I love to do both things. We were a musical family, too, but I just putter with that. I have several instruments and really don’t think I play any of them very well–when I do make the time to play. I love Celtic music, though, and when I listen to particular songs my brain starts envisioning scenes, and plots, and characters, and subsequently stories emerge. When I’m not creating or imagining something, I feel very much out of sorts.
